Lion of Judah
By Esther Chinyere Iwuji
I Saw a Vision…
. . .And I saw a yearning jealousy in the face of a bear robbed of it’s cubs,
a Lion to Judah,
the King who rules over the land that is Jacob’s.
When a person or any other created being becomes an idol,
They enslave your thoughts,
And can make your heart tidal.
Their opinions leave a mark on your every idea,
Affecting the choices you make,
Causing all discernment to disappear.
Unhealthy relationships aren’t just those judged as being abased.
It’s not only those that are abusive,
They are the ones that cause you to lose that grace.
The grace of God that guides you to walk intimately with His Word,
before the thoughts of men became louder than the voice of God you once heard.
You see, an unhealthy relationship is when the thoughts of man become the opinions of your own,
Their “she thinks” or “he said”,
When instead you should’ve made Jesus your home.
Using Your beauty to gain man’s respect,
The same curse upon Adam and Eve,
Upon you reflect,
A forsaking of God’s presence, His Word, His very essence,
The very One who died for you and did resurrect.
You abandoned His thoughts, the future that would’ve made you new,
Forsaking the gift of life for a man just to pleasure you.
You see this sketch is about a mistake I almost made,
A reflection of the thoughts and convictions that God did say.
The Holy Spirit is God,
There’s no doubt about that,
But the things He says,
Are we not so quick to take offence at?
He stood before me,
A tall lion guarding the way.
Blocking the road that would’ve only led me astray.
Through a doorway,
That would have led me to darkness.
I was deceived,
But God was yet to make things as clear as day.
That strange doorway’s destination, so dim and so uncertain,
I was about to walk through it,
But Jesus ripped the blinding veil,
He pulled away the curtain.
Revealing the idolatry, the sensuality and the lust,
The very muck that corrupted my heart,
The heart that I once did trust.
Realising where I was going, I looked up to see,
Forsaking my man-made plans,
I saw the way Jesus was looking at me.
“My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than yours,
Don’t you know that I have loved you,
despite all of your flaws?
Your sins I wash away in My sacred blood.
Your scars I have healed,
Your mistakes can be taken away in My forgetfulness flood.”
Oh Your eyes don’t miss a thing and are on all my ways!
My steps were mapped out before you,
Even before the beginning of my days.
“The one you have today is not the one I want you to consider. My thoughts you have forsaken,
But if you would continue to be faithful to Me,
I will bring you hither
To a land of milk and honey,
Though persecutions you may face,
But also to a man who will love you,
And all the more, I will make your heart My holy place.
So I did consider and left him once and for all,
The one who almost stole my heart,
And would've left me poor.
Now I look toward the journey that the Lord has set before me,
Uncanny but not blurry.
Oh, How great is the hope in Jesus
That God has for you and for me.
