Little Girl Running
By Esther Chinyere Iwuji
I Saw a Vision…
Like the dondo beats of a drum,
I heard Her feet hitting the ground.
Her King running beside her,
His steps making a greater sound.
Past the low and abominable valleys,
Avoiding the sin-sweet tree.
The pain and endurance of Jesus Christ,
Has been an encouragement to me.
The fact that He would endure the nails on that rugged cross,
She remembers that He bled and died,
Did He not suffer such a great loss?
Or was it a payment,
Some sort of propitiation?
Could He truly be that King,
Who would come pay for a whole human nation?
On the third day,
Rising from the dead.
Should we still mourn?
Or should we run with Him instead?
Run the race of faith God has set before you.
For Heaven’s gates are now open,
And through Jesus we can be made new.
He makes her new as though she’d never eaten the apple.
New, washed by His blood!
No longer does mere access
only come through a pope or a chapel.
You see, on this walk it’s just you and Jesus,
This girl runs with Him,
Let’s also run and God will teach us…
The mysteries of old,
And the revelations that are new.
But how many will come?
He replied,
“Only a few”.
She runs with Jesus,
She picks up a pace.
But fleshly temptations comes,
And she falls on her face.
Silently, He paused. Jesus Just waited,
“What will My child do next?”
The Father Himself, He wasn’t frustrated.
If only we’d all know that is it slow to incur,
The wrath of God,
That deliberate sin so often does stir.
“For I am slow to anger,
And abounding in love.
It is the reason why, while still in your sin,
I paid for you with My sacred blood.”
She flicks back her hair,
And sighs with great laughter,
Dusting off her knees,
She again begins to run after,
The King who promised her a new hope and redemption.
A land of milk and honey,
So not one word of doubt did she mention.
For no created thing can ever separate,
You from the love of your creator,
If you have walked by faith.
For if we could all be,
More like this child that we see,
We could walk in His promises,
And eat from the eternal life tree.
Believe, repent, be baptised!
Come and see,
The highway to Heaven,
And from the destiny of hell,
You will be set free.
